Do you like pretty rocks, beautiful trails, and delicious food? Then you should stop by Guemes Island in Anacortes, Washington. On the island is a sweet woman, Jodi Upton, who I interviewed, and she says, "The island is a jewel!"

The island is only reachable by a ferry or a private boat, and not many people visit it because it is small (but mighty!). When you first get off the ferry, you should visit the Guemes Island General Store for a bite to eat. I highly recommend the grilled cheese sandwich, fries, and a warmed chocolate chip cookie. It would be worth your time to visit the Peach Preserve, the State Park Beach, Cook's Cove, and the Guemes Mountain Trail. People on the island wave as they pass each other and are kind and generous with smiles.
I personally love the size of the island. It is 8 square miles long. Ms. Upton says that it is easy to run your dog if you have one. There is a place specially made for dogs, and it is called Dog Woods. Guemes' nickname is Dog Island, and most furry friends are off leash, and many roam the island freely. Dog Woods feels magical, and there are blackberries, raspberries, and lots of wildlife like deer, bunnies, and frogs. Now you might want to visit!

There are many beautiful sights on Guemes Island, and you might make lifelong friends while visiting. There is a nice park located at Edens Road, and it has a basketball court, pickleball court, and a big field for literally anything you may want to do. The best part is a medium-sized playground for all ages. The playground is new; the residents of the island raised the money to build it in 2022. The playground includes five swings, a rope climbing wall, five slides, and many other ways to amuse kids and kids at heart.

Visiting Guemes Island is like going back in time to a slower pace and kinder environment. It is a magical place for all ages, dogs, and dog-lovers.
